What is deferred interest financing?
Deferred interest financing is a borrowing option that lets you make eligible purchases with the opportunity to pay no interest on those balances. Interest will accrue from the purchase date but will be deferred until the end of the promotional period. You can avoid paying the deferred interest on eligible purchases at Apple if you make timely monthly payments during the promotional period and you pay the entire remaining purchase balance by the date on which the promotional period ends.
How does deferred interest financing work?
When you make a purchase that qualifies for deferred interest, interest charges are calculated and accrued each month from the date that you make your purchase. The accrued interest will be deferred until the end of the promotional period.
- If you pay off the entire purchase balance before the end of the promotional period (and all monthly payments are made on time), you will not pay the accrued interest.
- If you do not pay off your entire purchase balance by the end of the promotional period, or you are late with a payment, you will be billed all of the deferred interest that has accrued from the original purchase date.
During the promotional period, your billing statement will include a Deferred Financing Promotion Summary section that will provide the expiration date, interest accrued, and remaining promotional balance not yet paid. For more information about deferred interest financing, please visit barclaycardus.com/financingeducation.

In any billing cycle during that you are eligible to pay less than the statement balance, the "Customer Notification" section of your statement will provide you with specific payment amount necessary to avoid interest on those purchases. Chip Card FAQs
What is a chip card?
A chip card is a credit card that gives you a more secure, convenient way to make purchases in the U.S. and abroad. Chip cards store your account information on a small electronic chip embedded in the card. When you make a purchase at a chip-card terminal, the chip uses encryption technology to protect your information. This helps eliminate fraud and makes your card virtually impossible to counterfeit.
Is there an extra fee for having a chip card?
No. There is no additional fee.
What's the difference between a chip card, a smart card, an ICC card and an EMV (Europay/MasterCard®/Visa®) credit card?
Nothing, really. They're all names for the same type of card-the chip card.
Why do I need a chip card?
Chip cards are standard in Europe and other popular destinations. When you travel abroad, your chip card offers global acceptance and added confidence. In fact, because the technology has existed for more than 10 years, merchants in more than 130 countries (on 6 continents) now accept some even require chip cards at millions of locations.
U.S. merchants are now beginning to roll out chip terminals in their stores. Those terminals, and chip cards, are expected to significantly improve transaction security.
What if I'm traveling abroad, and I only have a traditional magnetic-stripe credit card?
Magnetic-stripe cards are often accepted in tourist resorts and cities, but not necessarily at self-service terminals and kiosks. In short, you're more assured of acceptance with a chip card.
How does my chip card work?
At traditional magnetic-stripe registers, you'll see no change. You'll swipe your card and sign just as you do today. But at merchants that use chip-card terminals, you'll insert your card into a slot in the card reader, and you'll leave it there until your transaction is complete. Most of the time, you'll sign for your transactions. At self-service terminals like ticket kiosks and vending machines, you'll be prompted to enter your PIN.
How do I get a PIN for my chip card?
Although we assigned a 4-digit PIN to your account when we opened it, we encourage you to change your PIN to something easy to remember, difficult to guess.
- If you activate your new card online, you'll be prompted to create a PIN. You won't have to know your existing PIN to create a new one.
- If you call us to activate your new card, you can also create a PIN, or you can request to have your assigned PIN mailed to you
Please note that if you create a new PIN, you'll have to sign for your first transaction at a chip-card terminal with a cashier. After your first chip transaction has been completed, your PIN will be activated and you'll be able to use your card at self-service terminals where a PIN is required.
You can also use your PIN for cash advances at ATMs in the U.S. and around the world. Your Cash Advance Annual Percentage Rate (APR) will apply. Remember that there is only one PIN for your account. As the primary cardmember, you may share your PIN with authorized users, at your discretion.
How do I use my chip card in a chip-card terminal?
Insert your chip card into the slot on the terminal chip side up and chip end in. Once the card has been inserted into the terminal, leave it there until your transaction is complete. Depending upon the merchant, you'll either be asked to sign for your transaction or enter your PIN. Some terminals may not require either vending machines, for instance.
What do I do if I forget my PIN?
Just go to Account Settings/Manage Your PIN to change your PIN. You won't need to know your current PIN to change it. Also, you can call the number on the back of your card and request to have your PIN mailed to you.
Is there anything special I should do before I travel abroad?
Yes. Before your trip, please let us know where you'll be going and for how long. This will help prevent us from placing temporary holds on your account when we notice unusual foreign transactions. You can contact us through your Barclaycard account page online and mobile or through our mobile app. Just log into your account and go to Tools/My Travel to tell us your travel plans. You can also call us at the number on the back of your card. Also, take our international customer service phone number with you in case you run into any problems using your card overseas. In an emergency, call us at 001-302-255-8888.
